I know many of the fashion design students tries to find out about Indian designers and details about their collection. So here I am to give you some detail of Ritu Kumar Collection. 

Ritu Kumar has a unique ability to evolve with each collection into creative styling, translating textures and embellishments into refreshing new and unexpectedly contemporary silhouettes making her work practically relevant from India's fashion point of view, her inspiration always remained motifs,prints and embroideries but mingled with western silhouette of indian style.

Through Panchvastra collection Ritu Kumar collection wants hand woven textile to become popular. This collection revolves around 5 main characters of Mahabharata- GANGA, DRAUPADI, KUNTI, AMBA AND GANDHARI representing 5 different moods. The main idea was to energies vintage clothing with a modern twist.

5 ladies who portrayed these moods were:-
GANGA- Dancer Anita Ratnam
DRAUPADI- Actress Dia Mirza
KUNTI- Actress Kiran Kher
AMBA- Actress Seema Biswas
GANDHARI- Actress Sushmita Sen

These 5 moods of RITU KUMAR Panchvastra Collection presented in different colours -
Purity in hues of white and peach,
Seduction with bold and rich colours,
Illusion by use of swarovski crystals, embellishment as wall as unusual garments,
Darkness by black, gold and indigo,
Exile through a varied mixture of colours - orange, gold and fuschia.

Fabric used in this collection was chanderi, brocade, silk, cotton, net, chiffon, georgette, tie and die, shimmer.
The use of mirror work, phulkari, sequence work, along with gota and zardosi embroidery added up a majestic look to the ensemble.

Easy Way To Understand Mood Boards

I know many of you don't know or get confused while making/preparing Inspiration Board, Theme Board, Mood Boards, Colour Board. Lets understand all types of boards in the easiest way.  

1. INSPIRATION BOARD

Before making any board you should be clear about your inspiration, now you will ask what is inspiration - You will be having 1000 of  thoughts and feelings but what matter is which one affect your action the most- for example I was watching a trailer on NETFLIX of Chasing Coral (a thrilling adventure to document the disappearance of the world's coral reefs.)  many thoughts came into my mind while watching it but the thought which fascinated me the most and keep on clicking in my mind again and again was the beauty  beneath the ocean so it became my inspiration (Inspiration is more about how you feel, and get motivated about both thoughts and feelings). The place, thing, poem, movie, history, architecture etc from where ever u got motivated 1 place or 10 it  becomes your inspiration and will come into your Inspiration Board

REMEMBER - Inspiration board is only to help the client know from where did you get the ideal of your theme that's it. 

Every board is based on the theme you take,onwards from this step you just keep your theme in mind while working on your other boards and final content/product

2. Theme Board

As you know my inspiration was the chasing coral trailer (the beauty  beneath the ocean), now what I have to think next is what should I give name to my Theme (theme - an idea that recurs in or pervades a work of art or literature), many words and phrases came into my mind like beauty of ocean, endless blues, under ocean beauty, an ocean breeze put the mind on peace, beautiful ocean, mystery of sea, marine beauty etc but I have to think about a unique name which can carry all my thoughts about it into one so i decided to name my theme as JEWELS OF THE SEA - why I took this name only,was evey beauty and aspect under the sea/ocean is a masterpiece, is unique, is like a jewel to our world so I named it so.  

I took all those images which can express my Theme in a THEME BOARD like a beautiful image of under ocean, pearls, shels, extraordinary and mysterious animals these all things are jewel of the ocean.  

3. MOOD BOARD 

Mood Board expresses emotion or feeling that you want to show or you want to express in your designs/final content. 

When you think about your theme what kind of feeling comes into ur mind and heart ?? For example lets take my theme JEWELS OF THE SEA, when I think or somebody else will think about my theme what emotion or feeling will comes 1st in my or her/his heart and mind get Excited, get surprised and fascinated to know about unusual things or creature beneath the ocean, enthusiastic and interested to know more, , alive and positive, amased, and an emotion of sensitivity that nothing should happen or go wrong with these beautiful things under ocean, a mysterious feeling about the ocean. 

4. COLOUR BOARD

Colour board represent what colour you are going to use for the final content of the theme you have selected.

For example for my theme product/final content i will use these colour as shown in my colour board.

Use Pantone numbers of your colour to give more specific information to your client. 

These 4 Boards are basic other boards are related to your stream for example in fashion next board is Silhouette Board and Fabric Board.

5. SILHOUETTE BOARD

In this board you have to show which silhouette (shape of the garment)  you are using for your chosen theme. Example- JEWELS OF THE SEA 

A-Line 

usually of a one-piece garment, flaring gently at the waist or hips .

Mermaid 

This is an attractive silhouette that follows the figure down to the knee before flaring out dramatically.

Empire 

the cut features a waistline just below the bust and a skirt that flows down all the way down.

H-Line 

usually  a one-piece garment, going straight from shoulder to hip, and crossed at the waist with a belt, cuff or other accent, thus resembling the letter ‘H.’

Sheath Dress

Features a figure-hugging silhouette with a defined waist creating a form fitting effect.

6. FABRIC BOARD

In this board you have to place all the fabrics that you are going to use to make garment on this theme you can either put pictures or you can put real fabric on the board. To select fabric you have to think about what kind of fabric will suit your theme in our case some soft, flowy, rich, suttle and shiney fabric and bit stretchable fabric will be the best, as I want the costume to be flow like water of the ocean.

7. TRIMS AND TASSEL BOARD

This boards consist of all types of gems, pearls, trims, tassels that you are going to use to embellish the costume of the selected theme 

8. MOTIF BOARD

This boards consist of all types motifs and patterns you are going to use to emboss on the costume  of the selected theme.

In 1910’s fashion took a great turn from impractical clothing to practical clothing  as women entered into the workplace and the right to vote in political elections movement (suffrage movement). 
1910 में फैशन में अव्यवहारिक कपड़ों से लेकर व्यावहारिक कपड़ों तक बहुत बदलाव आया क्योंकि महिलाओं ने कार्यस्थल में प्रवेश किया और राजनीतिक चुनाव आंदोलन (मताधिकार आंदोलन) में मतदान का अधिकार प्राप्त किया।

Straight and natural figures came into fashion rather than “S” shape figure. In 1910’s people started adopting more of straight line dresses which were loose from the waist. The fashion of frills and flounces got faded.
स्ट्रेट और नेचुरल फिगर “S” शेप फिगर की बजाय फैशन में आ गए। 1910 में लोगों ने सीधी रेखा के कपड़े अपनाने शुरू किए जो कमर से ढीले थे। तामझाम और फ्लॉज का फैशन फीका पड़ गया।

The hobble skirt was a short lived fashion that remained the height of fashion until around 1915., it was an impractical skirt with high waistline, Wide around the hips, narrower at the ankle and fit so tightly around the calf of women's legs that wearers had to hobble to get around.

Men were busy in fitting at the time of World War I, so women started doing jobs or I can say took to the workforces, here a new practical fashion came in "The Day suits" - A loose long skirt with a belted jacket embellished with fur trimming.

In 1915’s – hobble skirt get replaced with full skirt (end just above the ankle).

The “boyish look” of 1920’s started from the end of 1910’s, in 1918 garments were becoming straight and less curvy.
१ ९ २० के अंत से १ ९ २० के दशक के "बॉयिश लुक" की शुरुआत हुई, १ ९ १०   में वस्त्र सीधे और कम सुडौल हो रहे थे।

1910 Men's fashion - From 1914 to the end three piece lounge suit was commonly worn. But many of them were seen in fitting (military) uniforms as World War I was on. Side partition or middle partition remained the hair style for men. Beards/mustaches- old men can had a beard but younger men can only had mustaches or could be clean shaved.

After Queen Victoria's successor, King Edward VII the period 1901-1910 is called the Edwardian Era.

1900 women's fashion 

This Time was also called as La Belle Époque, or "Beautiful Age,"

It was an era of beautiful clothes, luxury was at its peak but only  for a select few: the very rich - privileged through birth. 

S-Shape, Mature woman silhouette, full low bust and curvy hips , skirts like a train brushing the floor.

Use of Press fasteners to hold the blouse to a skirt - started from early 1901 in america and started from 1905 in Britain.

The era 1900’s stepped into a change of tailored and tailor made suits which were getting strongly accepted by the women. Although Men objected to the tailor made female suit as they saw that it can bring challenge to their authority.

These tailor suits were made of wool or serge (a durable twilled woolen or worsted fabric). Tailor suit with shirtwaist blouses was worn by middle and upper class women. Deep high lace fabric collars that reached right under the chin to give neck an elongated look. High neckline was usual by day, low neckline was by the night (low sweetheart, low square and round décolleté necklines) which allowed women to wear number of fine jewelry, cleavage was not visible. 

ये दर्जी सूट ऊन या सर्ज (टिकाऊ टिकाऊ ऊनी या सबसे खराब कपड़े) से बने होते थे। कमीज ब्लाउज के साथ दर्जी सूट मध्यम और उच्च वर्ग की महिलाओं द्वारा पहना जाता था। डीप हाई लेस फैब्रिक कॉलर जो ठोड़ी के नीचे गर्दन को एक लम्बी आकृति देने के लिए पहुँचे। उच्च नेकलाइन दिन के हिसाब से सामान्य थी, रात के समय कम नेकलाइन थी (लो स्वीटहार्ट, लो स्क्वेयर और राउंड डेकोलेटा नेकलाइन्स) जो महिलाओं को बढ़िया गहने पहनने की अनुमति देती थी, क्लीवेज दिखाई नहीं देता था।

Fabric commonly used to make these tailored suits in this era were Linen, Cotton, Silk, Velvet, Lace.
इस युग में इन अनुरूप सूट बनाने के लिए आमतौर पर इस्तेमाल किए जाने वाले कपड़े लिनन, कपास, रेशम, मखमल, फीता थे।

Gloves- kid (a soft pliable leather made from kidskin  or we can say a glove leather made from lambskin or goatskin) gloves were always worn with outdoor garments both in the winter and the summer. Fancy gloves were made of suede and silk and embellished with fine embroidery.

In 1908 Fashion changed to thicker waist, flatter bust and narrower hips.

Blue and Pink period when Mannequins came into trend Fashion Models Mannequins dressed in latest styles sent by designers to social events.

The hourglass, mono bosomed (The pigeon-breasted shape of a blouse), have tiny waist and foto gentile lady of this period was The Gibson Girl.

1900 fashion Hairstyles :- Huge and broad brimmed hats were worn which were trimmed with feathers & stuffed birds. Decorated with ribbons & artificial flowers. All curly hair were brushed up on top of head and Large hats were worn with evening wear. In the late 1900’s fashion hats had smaller bended brims that shaded the face & deep crowns. 1900 फैशन हेयरस्टाइल: - विशाल और चौड़ी ब्रिम्ड हैट पहनी गई थी जो पंख और भरवां पक्षियों के साथ छंटनी की गई थी। रिबन और कृत्रिम फूलों से सजाया गया है। सभी घुंघराले बालों को सिर के ऊपर ब्रश किया गया था और बड़े टोपी शाम के पहनने के साथ पहने गए थे। 1900 के उत्तरार्ध में फैशन टोपियों में छोटी झुकी हुई ईंटें थीं जो चेहरे और गहरे मुकुट को हिलाती थीं।

Accessories of 1900's fashion - Lace was used in abundance, Hats, Gloves, Umbrellas/Parasols, Handbags, Lace Scarf, Silver chain purse.1900 के फैशन के सहायक उपकरण - फीता का उपयोग बहुतायत में किया गया था, टोपी, दस्ताने, छतरियां / परसोल, हैंडबैग, फीता दुपट्टा, सिल्वर चेन पर्स।

1900's MEN'S FASHION - Coat, waistcoat & trousers were worn in matching. Trousers/pants were shorter with cuffs, creased from front and back. Waistcoats secured high on the chest , the usual style of the waistcoat was single-breasted. Blazer was worn For sports and casual activities  . Formal dress – dark tail coat & trousers was worn for the formal meetings and tuxedo for the less formal ones. Shirts and neckties. Tall collars. Necktie was four-in-hand knot & Ascot Ties were worn with formal day dress and white bow ties common in the evening. Top Hats were worn with the formal wear whereas Bowler Hats were usually worn with lounge or sack suits.

1920 Fashion , throughout 20's was all about elegance. The key was female grace, but without curves. A cylinder and flat chested silhouette was the objective for women, large bust could be flattened with the help of early brass like "Symington Side Lacer ".

1920 Women's Fashion 
Most dresses and skirts between 1925 and 1930 remained just below the knee, but above the ankle.

Two important dress of 1920's were - no.1 cloche hat and no. 2 the flapper dress.

In the starting of 1920's fashion the waist line was very low - often below the bum, until 1925.There after the waistline was nearer the natural hipline.

The cloche hat had become advanced from the wider-brimmed hats of the last 10 years, and continued to change until the 1930's and beyond. The cloche hat was a close fitting hat that was often worn tilted, covering the forehead. Women use to cut their hair short and use to make them flat so that they can fit under these types of hats, these hats use to cover the ears as well. The flapper dress and the cloche hat were worn together in the late 20’s.

With help of women institute of design women started sewing dresses at home, they simply take 2 pieces of fabric sewn them together by the sides. 
महिलाओं के डिजाइन संस्थान की मदद से महिलाओं ने घर पर ही कपड़े सिलने शुरू कर दिए, वे बस कपड़े के 2 टुकड़ों को एक साथ सिलती हैं।

The flapper dress was a loose style dress which was cut in straight, but the length of the flapper dress varied a little time to time - in early 20’s about calf length, In 1926-1928 hemline were the shortest (approx knee length). During late 20’s waistline of the dress was lowered down to the hip so as to give the women more of the boyish look. However by the early 1930’s the waist line came back to the actual position as it was before. 1924, 1925, 1926, and 1929 were the eras where flapper dress was seen the most or we can say in these era flapper dress was very popular.

Women began to wear pants with shoes. Some of the famous shoes styles were the ankle strap button shoe, the t-bar shoe, and shoes trimmed with sequins or other materials.
महिलाओं ने जूते के साथ पैंट पहनना शुरू कर दिया। कुछ प्रसिद्ध जूते शैलियों में टखने का पट्टा बटन जूता, टी-बार जूता और सेक्विन या अन्य सामग्री के साथ छंटनी किए गए जूते थे।

1920 Kids Fashion 

Children clothing was more comfortable – frilly laced dresses and formal baby clothes were replaced by short dresses. Cotton frocks, cardigan sweaters, shoes or sandals were the common clothes for older girls.
बच्चों के कपड़े अधिक आरामदायक थे - फ्रिली लेस वाली पोशाकें और छोटे कपड़े की जगह औपचारिक बच्चे के कपड़े। बड़ी लड़कियों के लिए कॉटन फ्रॉक, कार्डिगन स्वेटर, जूते या सैंडल आम कपड़े थे।
